Are you looking for Newborn Pictures with family in Greenville SC? Do you have an active two-four year old and are wondering if it’s even possible? It is!  And I’m happy to share the secrets with you.

The first thing you should know is that I ask you to prepare your child. Most kids will do well if they can. They will do well if they know what’s expected of them. Tell them my name (it’s Melissa). Let them know that I’m going to ask them to make silly faces for a picture. Let them know that I’m going to have them hold their sibling (probably laying down). Practice with a baby doll! Take a million pictures with your phone.  Let them take a million pictures of you laying down with the baby doll.  Practice sitting with mommy or daddy and letting the other parent play photographer. Let them know that I have special toys in the studio for after pictures. Bring a special treat too!  If your child knows who I am and what to expect, they will usually do well.

Next, you should know I play hard with my 2-4 year old clients.  There’s lots of high fives, some silly animal noises, some tickling, and other shenanigans catered to your child’s personality. In fact, I might not even greet the parents until your older child has lost interest in the session.  And I know that interest lasts for about 20 minutes. Of course, if your kiddo is on the shy side, I follow their lead, too.  And I have to admit, there are many times when I just ignore a disinterested preschooler until they’re suddenly jealous that everyone else has their attention and then I capitalize on that moment!

Finally, you should know that my expectations of your child are realistic. I know there will be whining or a meltdown or a few tears.  I know they’re going to run around and maybe even hide under the newborn table.  I know they might get overstimulated and need a moment of cuddles while I wrap the baby and pay attention to the other parent. Most importantly, I know that parenting a little one is hard work and that their behavior reflects more on their age and stage than on your love and care for them.

Newborn Pictures with Family in Greenville SC: Andrea, Nick, Luke, and Noah

These brothers Luke and Baby Noah were a blast. Luke was in the studio as a newborn (click to see his pictures), so it was a gift to have Andrea and Nick trust me with baby Noah. Luke had a few moments of shyness and overwhelm. He relied on his Mickey Car toy to provide some security in this new environment. You can see that featured in one of the images. Honestly, I love that capture. As a mom, it brings your emotions right back to that age and those precious memories.

I love simple posing in a newborn session. I want your baby to be the star of their session. They’re beautiful just as they are. I loved when Andrea picked gray and cream as the primary colors. Like all my sessions, Jackson led the posing time with his comfort. I try to move between poses smoothly, but also let your baby choose things that are characteristically their mannerisms. For instance, Jackson liked to escape swaddles, hence the one legged pose that’s uniquely his alone. Andrea, Andrew, Ava, and Eliana have been to the studio before when Eliana was a newborn. I have a studio wardrobe that I provide for mamas because it’s so hard to find flattering clothing during the immediate postpartum period. Buying something that will only fit for a little while can be so disheartening so I began collecting items for my mama wardrobe over time. The dress Andrea is wearing is from this wardrobe, but you can see all of the mama wardrobe here. Additionally, Ava decided to borrow a dress from my wardrobe mid session, too! I do have several items in each size for the big siblings, too!

Rowan is Chelsea’s second baby that I’ve had the joy of photographing! Here’s his brother Finn as a newborn. Aren’t the just two peas in a pod? And these sweet boys are the cutest brothers ever! Look!  Finn was adorable with Rowan. Sibling pictures with kiddos under 3 are not usually easy, but Finn made it easy.
I especially love his silly face in the family photo below. I’m not sure if I had a lion dancing on my head or if I was making elephant noises, but Finn was a JOY to play with!Some of my favorite images are new parents with their babies. Lots of moms feel out of sorts after birth, but I always work a little magic in Photoshop to help you look more like yourself. Chelsea and Micheal are so in love with their kids which shows in photos. This is why it’s so important to be in picture with your kids: they can see how much you love them. Plus, look at Finn’s smile! So precious As for sweet baby Finn, we were able to capture his features in a simple bowl, a layered nest set up, and just as he is on olive and cream. The black and white below is my favorite image from Finn’s session. There’s something so pure and simple in capturing his features against the light.

Looking for Simple Earthy Baby Boy Newborn Pictures Greer SC? Hi, welcome! Let me introduce you to Collin and his family, but especially his mama Courtney and how she had some specific dreams for this session.

Courtney had worked with me before, both for middle sister Reagan’s Newborn session and for her Reagan’s cake smash, which you can see here. However, this is Courtney’s first boy! One of my favorite requests that Courtney had was of this image with her grand-daddy’s hat and sweet Collin. You can see it below featured plainly on the little log bed, but it’s also resting subtly under Collin inside the wooden root bowl. It’s such a beautiful tribute to such an influential man and it was pleasure to honor this request. As you can see, Collin really liked being awake for his session. This happens more often than you’d expect. Sometimes, despite a full tummy, warm room, and soothing noisemaker, babies just want to take in the scenery. Collin was definitely one of those babies! I don’t force newborns to sleep. I actually prefer that they direct the session. So if I have an awake little one, I’ll move them through a series of props and outfits to make sure mama gets some variety in their gallery. Eventually your baby will sleep, but it’s more important to me to honor them as a person than to force a pose or sleep.As you can see, big sisters Reese and Reagan delighted in their new baby brother! Sibling pictures, especially with siblings under 4, can be a challenge. Here too I prefer to let the kids lead as often as I’m able. Having a new baby is a big change so I try hard to make big siblings feel like they’re the center of attention while they’re in the studio. Usually I request that big siblings get a special trip out with dad or grandparents or a treasured adult. There’s something so timeless about natural posed Black and White Newborn Pictures in Simpsonville SC. When a parent requests to have their baby photographed on black, I get so excited. These images have such a ethereal womb like quality. The shadows here caress Tate’s tiny features and highlight them. The image with Lyndsey’s hands emphasize just how small Tate is. But most of all there’s so much emotion in black and white. I have a blast with two year olds, playing and tickling and making them feel like the session is just about them before sending them off on a fun playdate with mom or grandma. Sometimes I don’t even get to to interact with mom and dad much during family images because I’m working so hard on building a relationship with big sibling!
