2020I was so excited for Claire’s Girly Tutu and Pearls Cake Smash Photography Session Simpsonville SC! I’ve photographed Claire as a newborn, at 3 months, at 6 months, and now it was time for her one year session. Claire’s mom Lindsey has always been super involved in planning Claire’s sessions. Lindsey has chosen adorable outfits, Lindsey’s own baby dresses, and including a simple white onesie to focus on Claire’s inherent beauty. So it’s no surprise that Lindsey creatively designed Claire’s set. She handmade this banner and tutu! I loved seeing Lindsey’s vision come true! Lindsey and I also collaborated with Christine at Baking Sweet Scents for this adorable (and dairy free) smash cake. Each session includes a semi-naked cake like this one from Baking Sweet Scents. Lindsey added sprinkles and color to her order and I love the effect! Claire LOVED Baking Sweet Scents cake. She even hugged and face planted into it. It was glorious. Claire even had to enjoy the frosting with her toes! We laughed so hard we could barely breathe. Not all babies love their cake as much as Claire did, but every baby is equally emotional about cake. From tears to screaming horror at the sticky substance on their hands to feeding cake to mom and siblings, all one year olds react uniquely. Before these cake smash images we also took some simple portraits. You can see Lindsey’s unique style in her beautiful wardrobe choices for Claire. And I love that Lindsey also opted for family photos. Are you looking to create and design your own daughters girly cake smash? I would love to hear your creative ideas and collaborate with you to create the images that you are dreaming up. 2020I was so excited to see Reagan and her family for Classic Timeless One Year Old Photography Greer SC. This is my third session with Reagan this year. I got to see her as a newborn (click here to see the whole session) and at six months old (click here to see the six month session). It’s such a joy to watch Quiet Graces Babies Grow up! Here are a couple of pictures from her first two sessions!
Simple Timeless One Year Old Portraits
We started Reagan’s session with some portraits. I love how you can see her personality in the two images below. She just HAD to pull that bow right off her head!
Like most one year olds, Reagan had a little bit of stranger anxiety. She wasn’t quite sure of of me. But she did warm up during these portraits and even let mama Heather dart out of the room to borrow some clothing from the studio wardrobe for herself and big sister Emery. The outfit that Reagan is wearing in this portrait set is also part of the studio wardrobe. The green silk skirted set is a studio favorite from Cora and Violet’s Shop.
Studio Sibling and Family Pictures
Once Emory and Heather were dressed we took some images of everyone together. Often mama’s shy away from being in pictures, but one of my favorite things about Heather is that she always jumps in the images. Her bravery is a beautiful example for these sweet girls and they’ll always remember how much she adored them!
Emery hammed it up for me this session! It was a joy to capture these smiles because Emery takes more time to warm up than most 8 year olds. I drew her an elephant to sit on and let her take home some of the posing paper after the session. I think that helped. These mama and daughter cuddles are my absolute favorites from this session!
Emotional Simple Studio Cake Smash
Finally, we finished the session with a cake smash! Christine of Baking Sweet Scents makes a semi-naked cake for all of my cake smash session that’s included in your session fee. Most clients opt for plain cream frosting, but Heather went super pink and girly for Reagan and I love it!

2020One of my favorite thing is making cake smash dreams come true so I was delighted when Simone asked me to create a Simple Fun Woodland Themed Cake Smash Pictures Hendersonville NC for her son Brennex! It includes a big brother named Keegan, Mom and Dad, a really spectacular cake, and lots of silliness coupled with snuggles. Come along for the fun with me!
Family Images
I always snap a few pictures of the whole family at any cake smash session and the one below is clearly a favorite! I’m pretty sure I was making either elephant or rooster noises to charm Keegan. Like most preschoolers, he wasn’t interested in the session unless he was the center of attention. But with a kiddo this cute, it was easy to make Keegan feel like he was the center of attention! I love the timeless colors the Simone chose and the cute romper she borrowed from my wardrobe for Brennex. Providing some options for the whole family to wear in the studio is one of the joys of helping your session be stress free.
My favorite session images are usually those with mom or dad. It’s so rare that we get to be in front of the lens with our kids and it’s always so beautiful for our children to really see how much they are loved by us.
One Year Cake Smash Photography
Once we finished family images it was time for Brennex to smash cake. This lovely cake was a special commission from Christine of Baking Sweet Scents. A simple semi-naked cake is provided and decorated for all cake smash clients, but clients are welcome to customize the cake for an an additional fee. This cake turned out just as Simone requested and I love it! Clearly so did Brennex. 🙂
In fact, Brennex loved it so much he had to share some with Keegan!
The Bubble Bath
I like to finish all Cake Smash sessions with a bubble bath. It’s a simple way for you to clean off your baby, gives us a few more images, and if your baby wasn’t into the cake usually the love the bath! Brennex loved his so much!

2020Are you tired of over done cake smashes and loving for a more Fresh Timeless Emotional Cake Smash Photography Simpsonville SC look? I love a pretty set (as you can see below), but for me photography is really about capturing the essence and personality of a person as they are right in that moment. Nowhere is this emotional side of my photographer more visible than in a cake smash. One year olds FEEL it all… and I shoot it all! Because I know, you’ll want to remember it all someday soon.
Reagan was feeling all kinds of ways about her cake above. And as I scan through all of those photos I took experience all of her emotions. I laugh at Reagan’s disgust at the texture of frosting. Then, I smile over her surprised look at the taste of frosting. I celebrate her joy at actually eating this cake. It’s just a treat for my feelings. This is what a good day looks like. And this is what I want to capture, not perfectly posed moments with sets so stunning I can hardly find your baby.
So what’s included in a cake smash session with me?
First, time! A typical cake smash takes 60-90 minutes. I don’t try to rush your little one, regardless of whether they need extra snuggles or extra time to explore their cake.
Second, cake! Christine from Baking Sweet Scents makes you a lovely white tiered naked cake that is included in your session fee. If you’d like to customize it like this one, then you can do so for an additional fee.
Finally, you have the right to choose. You get to choose whether you want a budget session with 15 images or an extravagant session where you get every image we produce. And you get to select the images in your package.
And did I mention that family and a bubble bath are included as well?! Does this sound like the Fresh Timeless Emotional Cake Smash Photography Simpsonville SCn you’re dreaming of for your little one? I’d love to capture all their little expressions. Contact me by clicking here.

2020Eli had a a wonderful time at his Woodland Inspired Cake Smash Photography Greenville SC!
Eli’s Mom Danielle requested this cute set. The moss background, stump cake stand, and simple diaper cover are studio standards. I use these all the time. But the cake from Christine of Baking Sweets Scents really made this set! Danielle had an inspiration image and Christine made it happen. A Baking Sweet Scents semi-naked cake is included in every cake smash session, but a special request like this can be added into your session investment if desired. As you can see, Eli thinks that Christine’s cake is amazing. He smeared it everywhere and ate fistfuls!
What a mess he made! Watching babies react to the cake in so many different ways is my favorite part of every cake smash session. The range of reactions is hysterical: from digging in to being disgusted with the cake to crying because they have sticky stuff all over their hands the reactions are so varied. I love capturing all of the emotions one year old have. But even if the little ones cry during cake, usually a bubble bath cheers them up! It also gives you more opportunities for fun photos of your little one.
This is my fourth year photographing this family. You can see his brother’s Samuel in Newborn and Cake Smash photos here. And here’s an image from Eli’s Newborn session. But look at how little he was! They grow so much in the first year. One of my favorite parts of working with Danielle is that she always chooses to be in images. She knows that her babies just want to see how much she loved them. She knows her babies think she is beautiful. It’s a small act of bravery for Danielle, but it’s a huge gift to her children.
